Today we really got stuck into editing.
And as expected it was tiring and labouring. Everyone was in the studio with their A-game on.
A few things we discovered as we began to cut through footage:
· Spotted BOOM pole in some of the shots – which either made them impossible to use or we had to zoom the shot in and fiddle with it so the shadows/actual pole were out of sight.
· The sound was proving to be an issue because some sounds were too soft, others too loud and then some of it was perfect. Lucky for us though – as some of our scenes are fantasy and don’t require sound, we didn’t worry too much it on the shoot. It’s funny to listen to it back though and hear us chatting in the background. Kieran played with the sound after I left –had to get back to work- and it sounds good. It’s amazing the effect sound can have on a piece, we’re definitely able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
· Colour scheme. The only thing we have to do now is saturate the fantasy scenes to make it bleeding obvious to the audience these scenes are in her head/in dream state.
o That was one of the things people picked up in the rough-cut showing the other week – they weren’t sure what was real or what the point of the costume change was. We hope the colour difference and sound will aid in the differentiation process.
· We also had trouble with saving our recent work to the server. Kept coming up with a ‘server error’ message – which is really frustrating because we didn’t have another way of saving. Verity saved it to the documents folder so it’s somewhere on the computer. Fingers crossed we can find it easily on Sunday
Verity, Hana and myself are heading back into the studios on Sunday to fiddle with the colour. Hope it all runs smoothly!
